FAQ

What is a caucus?

A caucus is a gathering of neighbors to discuss issues and organize the local DFL party unit (DFL46).  All political parties have their caucuses on the same night.  One of the important tasks that each caucus meeting will consider is resolutions to update our party platform and action agenda.

What happens at caucus?

  • We elect delegates and alternates to attend the SD46 DFL convention, which will be held on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at Eisenhower Community Center.  Registration opens at 11:00 am; Official start (gavel) is at noon.
  • We adopt resolutions for consideration in the State DFL Action Agenda or Ongoing Platform.
  • We elect precinct chairs and vice chairs in each precinct for 2-year terms.
  • Participants can volunteer to help plan the SD 46 DFL convention by signing up to be on a committee, which is limited to two people per precinct to each committee.
  • We will get to meet our state legislators and our DFL neighbors.
  • We can learn more about other opportunities to get involved and help get democrats elected.

How can I participate if I can’t attend caucus night?

Under state rules, all caucuses and endorsing conventions must be held in-person.   If you want to participate in the caucus, but can’t attend in-person, you can fill out this non-attendee form.  There are two ways to submit this non-attendee form:

  • Fill out the non-attendee form and have someone else bring it on caucus night, or
  • Email the non-atteendee form to dfl46.caucus@gmail.com, January 1 –  January 31, 2026

NOTE:  As a non-attendee you won’t be able to vote (for candidate straw polls, delegates, or resolutions), but you will be able to:

  • Be nominated and possibly elected as a precinct officer or a delegate or alternate to a higher level convention
  • Submit resolutions for caucus approval by attaching a Resolution Form. (see link below)
  • Sign up to help in other ways: as an Election Judge, or as a member of a committee setting up for a higher level convention.

How can I submit resolutions?

NOTE:  Submitted resolution forms must include your name, contact information, and precinct.  Plus, you must submit a non-attendee form to be eligible to submit resolutions.  Resolutions without a non-attendee form will not be considered at caucus.

Complete a fillable-PDF Minnesota DFL Resolution Form, or use one of the pre-formatted resolutions provided by DFL Community Caucuses and other advocacy organizations. Submit the resolution via email, or have someone bring it to caucus night.  Electronic copies of these forms be emailed to caucus@sd46dfl.org along with your non-attendee registration form.
