Senator Linda Scheid Given MN Legislator of the Year Award

Nora Ryan, Relay for Life Team Captain, and David Arons, Director of Government Relations for the American Cancer Society, presented the American Cancer Society Minnesota Legislator of the Year Award to Senator Scheid at the Brooklyn Center Relay for Life on July 9th. Senator Scheid, a cancer survivor and member of the Minnesota Legislative Cancer Caucus, was chief author of the Oral Chemotherapy Parity Act of 2010, a law that helps cancer patients obtain affordable access to oral chemotherapy medications. David Arons commented that "Senator Linda Scheid fights for a worthy cause in a heartfelt, rigorous, and passionate way."
Mr. Arons explained that Senator Scheid closed the door on the opposition when she pulled out her own Explanation of Benefits to show what she was fighting for was necessary. What she did will have a lasting influence on millions of Minnesotans. Senator Scheid also passed legislation which makes sure that new tobacco products are treated the same as cigarettes. It protects consumers from current products and those which come out in the future. "Senator Scheid makes things happen no matter how many powerful interests are against it."
